High School Science Teacher/Coach

Primary Purpose:
To provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the science curriculum designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher/coach will also support the district’s athletic program through coaching responsibilities aligned with UIL and district expectations. This dual role supports both academic and extracurricular excellence consistent with the mission and vision of Runge ISD.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Valid Texas teaching certificate in Science (Composite Science 7–12 or specific science discipline).

Valid Texas CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire).

Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of science curriculum and instructional strategies aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Ability to instruct and coach students while managing multiple priorities.

Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a campus and district professional learning community.

Knowledge of UIL rules, athletic safety protocols, and program organization.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Responsibilities

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district curriculum programs and reflect accommodations for student differences.

Prepare lessons that reflect research-based instructional strategies and best practices in science education.

Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and summative assessments.
-
Use data to drive instruction and adjust lessons to meet individual learning needs.
-
Integrate technology into instruction and laboratory investigations to enhance learning.
-
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Maintain open communication with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure continuous academic progress.
Coaching Responsibilities

Serve as a coach in one or more athletic programs as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Plan, coordinate, and supervise practices and competitions in accordance with UIL and district policies.

Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and character education among student-athletes.

Oversee athletic equipment, facilities, and student safety during practices and competitions.

Maintain accurate records of eligibility, physicals, and athletic inventory.

Collaborate with campus and district staff to promote academic success for all student-athletes.
Professional Responsibilities

Participate in campus and district professional development, faculty meetings, and committees.

Support district initiatives such as the Runge 22 soft skills, PBIS, and Capturing Kids’ Hearts.

Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.

Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, ethics, confidentiality, and positive relationships.

Comply with Texas Education Code §21.4031, district policies, and legal requirements for teachers and coaches.
Working Conditions:

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; manage competing priorities and multiple student needs.

Physical Demands: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing; moderate lifting and carrying; possible exposure to outdoor weather conditions during athletic events.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the T-TESS and Coaching Evaluation Protocols.
